The Engagement Manager (Marketing & Admissions) is a new role at an exciting time for Westminster School, as we move towards full co-education and introduce three new Pre-Prep years.
Sitting within the Marketing and Communications department, this role will help shape and then deliver the School’s key recruitment messages to a range of audiences, including prospective families and feeder schools.
The Westminster School Marketing and Communications department works across both schools within the wider Charity: Westminster School (ages 13 - 18 senior school) and Westminster Under School (ages 4 - 13 prep school). The successful candidate will work across both schools.
This is a mid-level role focused on relationship management, operational delivery, and data-informed engagement. It would suit someone with either (or both) a marketing or admissions background – but certainly someone who sees the importance of good customer service, and who is willing to seek and rely on data to make changes that will see continuous improvement.
The post will suit someone keen to work in a varied role; an effective communicator who can engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
Previous experience of admissions and marketing functions at a school, college or university is highly desirable, but we are equally keen to welcome applications from those with relevant experience in other sectors.
This is a varied, proactive role suited to a collaborative communicator who is confident working autonomously, balancing multiple deadlines, and confident in making informed decisions about how the school is represented to prospective families.
The Engagement Manager (Marketing & Admissions) will report to the Director of Marketing and Communications, and focus on the following areas:
Feeder School Engagement
- Maintaining good relationships with key feeder schools and nurseries
- Arranging visits by senior teachers to feeder schools and nurseries
- Maintaining contact databases and notes about feeder schools
- Planning and sending correspondence to feeder schools, reporting on the success of their former pupils whilst at Westminster, inviting heads to Westminster events etc
- Reporting back, using gathered data to support engagement improvement plans
Recruitment Events
- Researching and attending independent schools shows, future schools events, exhibitions and community events as a representative of the school throughout the year
- Preparing materials (banners, stands, prospectuses) for external events
- Assisting the Admissions team, as needed, with on-site open days
Offer-holder Engagement
- In conjunction with senior teachers and the Admissions team, helping devise and manage events for offer-holder families, such as information evenings, special Westminster Abbey services, taster days etc.
Recruitment Marketing and Promotion (content, materials, and information)
- Supporting the development and delivery of recruitment marketing campaigns
- Supporting the production of content for admissions materials (print, web, email, social)
- Ensuring printed prospectuses, brochures, guides and handouts are up to date
- Ensuring consistency of messaging
- Assisting in managing relationships with external admissions and marketing partners
- Acting as link between the Admissions Department and Marketing & Communications Department to ensure aligned workflows
International and boarding engagement
- Promoting, in particular, boarding and its merits to UK and international parents
- Helping increase the international promotion of Westminster
- Some travel overseas if and when required
Knowledge of the Admissions system
- Maintaining a good working knowledge of the entire annual recruitment process, by regularly engaging with the Registrar and Admissions team on key dates, and when marketing and engagement events should be planned
Data and Evaluation
- Being a key user of the new registration system (planned for late 2026), able to read and analyse data and trends at all entry points
- Creating and distributing event feedback surveys
- Compiling, analysing and reporting on survey data to identify trends, strengths and areas for improvement
- Monitoring key admissions metrics (e.g., enquiry-to-registration conversion, event attendance, feeder school engagement)
This job description is intended to be enabling rather than restrictive, and will be subject to regular review to ensure it is suitable both for the schools and the post holder.
Working Patterns
The role is full time only, but can be offered:
- full-time, year-round, Monday to Friday 9.00am - 5.00pm (preferred), or
- full-time, term time only, Monday to Friday 9.00am - 5.00pm (at pro rata of advertised salary)
The role is contracted as on-site, because face-to-face working with the team is essential. However, there is flexibility to work from home as appropriate. There is usually more flexibility for remote working during school holiday periods.
This role will require some evening and weekend work, and likely some overseas travel. Out-of-hours and overseas work will be planned in advance and limited so as not to be overly-burdensome on the office holder. Out-of-hours work can be taken back as time in lieu. Overtime is not paid.
This post is subject to a six-month probation period.
Equal Opportunities
We are an equal opportunities employer. We therefore encourage candidates to apply irrespective of age, disability, marriage or civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion and belief, gender identity, sex or sexual orientation.
Safeguarding and Child Protection
Westminster School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
Working at Westminster
Westminster School is a busy, purposeful and vibrant place to be and an excellent workplace. The community is made up of around 750 pupils, 120 teaching staff and 108 support staff.
Our staff are friendly and welcoming, and all newcomers quickly become part of the rhythm of life here.
There is a real sense of community here as, being a boarding school many members of staff and pupils live on site and the School’s premises are very much treated as a home away from home. School life starts before breakfast and continues way beyond the working day; as a result, there is always a lively atmosphere in and around School and always someone to share a tea and biscuit with in the Common Room. Support staff as much as teaching staff are encouraged to embrace the School’s day-to-day activities, whether that be attending an evening concert or a morning service in the Abbey.
At Westminster we will always select the best candidate for every position. We do know, however, that we can only truly choose the best person on every occasion if a broad and diverse pool of candidates see the job advertised and are encouraged to apply.
As such, we continue to work on how our job roles are encountered, and particularly welcome applications from groups who have traditionally been underrepresented here.
Westminster School is for everyone, regardless of gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation or any other protected characteristic. We hope you are encouraged to apply.
The School
Westminster School is an independent day and boarding school for boys aged 13-18 and girls aged 16-18, with a long history, a distinctive ethos, and a unique sense of place in the very heart of London. Pupils achieve exceptional examination results and entrance to some of the top universities in the world. It is a busy, passionate and purposeful place where independent and deep thinking is enjoyed, encouraged and respected by all, and where holistic excellence is nurtured and valued.
While the School is one of the foremost centres of academic excellence in the country, its commitment to academic life does not make it a hothouse for passing examinations. Pupils’ success at examinations and entry to leading universities is instead a result of their enjoyment of academic enquiry, debate and search for explanation, well beyond published syllabuses. Pupils are intellectually, socially, ethically and politically engaged and our aim is to ensure that their enthusiasm for learning is developed further, allowing them to take full advantage of the opportunities presented to them in the future. At Westminster, pupils have the freedom to lead on projects outside of the classroom and embrace a whole range of extra-curricular activities and interests. A host of pupil-led societies take place every week at the School, often with expert guest speakers, and pupils can choose to study an additional language, play an instrument or two, volunteer in local primary schools, row along the Thames, take part in plays and musicals, and much more.
The School’s ethos resides in the enduring values of the liberal tradition reflected in the 1560 Charter of Westminster’s Elizabethan foundation, where it is stated that: ‘the youth which is growing to manhood, as tender shoots in the wood of our state, shall be liberally instructed in good books to the greater honour of the state’. Whilst academic and cultural attainments are highly prized at Westminster, the School is fully committed also to each pupil’s spiritual, moral, emotional and physical development and wellbeing – with a particular emphasis on drawing out individual talent wherever it lies – and to prepare young people for fulfilled private and public lives.
From September 2028, the School will welcome both girls and boys at 13+ entry, offering a Westminster education to all. By 2026, Westminster Under School will have opened its brand new pre-prep for girls and boys at 4+ and girls will have joined boys in Years 3 and 7, at the 7+ and 11+ entry points. By 2030, all year groups at Westminster School and Westminster Under School, from ages four to 18, will be fully co-educational, reflecting the School’s dedication to inclusivity and excellence.
